Lysa M. Friedlieb is a Partner in the West Palm Beach office of Barker Patterson Nichols, where she practices primarily in complex commercial litigation matters and general liability matters as an insurance defense attorney with extensive experience in construction defect litigation, product liability, and premises liability matters. Lysa has experience litigating a wide variety of construction disputes ranging from defect and delay claims to lien and contract disputes emanating from condominium and homeowner association construction claims, governmental projects, and single-family homes.
For over twenty years, Lysa has represented many of the country’s leading insurance carriers, assisting them in finding effective solutions to their legal challenges. From beginning to end, Lysa works with claims professionals to investigate and evaluate claims appropriately, determine the liability exposure for the insured and any negligence on the part of the plaintiff, arrive at case management strategies, and aggressively defend insureds when necessary.
Additionally, Lysa has experience in interpreting insurance policies and litigating coverage issues, including bad faith matters. Her practice extends from traditional insurance-related issues to complex litigation in state and federal courts. Lysa was heavily involved in the mass tort/product liability state and federal class action cases regarding Chinese drywall sulfurous off-gassing and argued substantive motions limiting claims brought against home builders, which Judge Fallon, who oversaw the Chinese Drywall MDL, adopted. Lysa also has several insurance coverage decisions in the Southern, Middle, and Northern District Courts in the state of Florida.
Lysa was born in Miami, raised and educated in New York. She received her B.A. degree from the State University of New York, Albany, where she graduated cum laude, and received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. While in law school, she clerked for state circuit court Judge E. Pincus and worked at the famed Carnegie Deli.
Lysa enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends. She is an avid photographer, enjoys hiking, swimming, and working in her garden.
Lysa is licensed to practice law in the states of Florida and New York, as well as in the Southern and Middle District Courts in Florida.
